August 3 is the deadline for artists to submit applications for official showcases during the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) Conference, which takes place at the Holiday Inn Austin Midtown (formerly the Radisson) in Austin, Texas from Sept. 30-Oct. 3. A series of 15-minute official showcase slots are slated for Friday and Saturday nights.
Applicants must submit a CD (indicating three songs to be considered), along with a one-page bio, a photo, and $25 application fee. Applications, which can be found at www.swrfa.com along with additional information about the conference, may be submitted via U.S. Mail or Sonicbids.
In addition to the coveted official showcase slots, artists will have other opportunities to perform and gain exposure to presenters, radio DJs and others in attendance at the conference. These include late-night showcases in attendees’ hotel rooms and open mics hosted by Butch Morgan. An exhibit hall and seminars exploring various facets of the music business also are on the conference agenda, as are plenty of opportunities for networking. Discounted conference registration ($195 including five meals and a cocktail party) is available through Sept. 20.
A regional affiliate of the Folk Alliance International, SWRFA covers the states of Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
